Shafer Mechanical is excited to welcome Josh Sewell as our new Commercial Director. With an extensive background in commercial HVAC and plumbing sales, Josh brings a proven track record of building high-performing teams, developing long-term customer relationships, and helping organizations grow through strategic service solutions.
Throughout his career, Josh has worked with large organizations across Central Texas, where he has led sales teams, expanded market presence, and developed service programs for complex facilities. One experience that stands out involved overseeing the growth of a commercial service sales team in the Austin market. Faced with the challenge of building a stronger foundation, Josh focused on aligning people with their strengths, strengthening collaboration between sales and operations, and creating a culture centered on accountability and teamwork.
“We expanded into industries like healthcare, industrial manufacturing, and data centers while building a team that genuinely enjoyed working together,” Josh said. “That experience reinforced my belief that sustainable success starts with having the right people in the right roles and supporting them every step of the way.”
When asked what attracted him to Shafer Mechanical, Josh points to the company’s culture and leadership.
“It came down to a conversation with the President/CEO, Chase Anderson,” he explained. “His belief in relationships as the foundation of the customer experience really resonated with me. The focus on being the best company, not necessarily the biggest, while creating opportunities for employees, customers, and partners, aligned with everything I value.”
As Commercial Director, Josh sees tremendous opportunity to strengthen Shafer Mechanical’s presence throughout Austin and Central Texas. With the company’s growing footprint and new Austin office, he is focused on introducing more facility managers, property owners, and business leaders to the benefits of having a trusted mechanical partner.
“Many facilities managers are asked to do more with less,” Josh said. “They’re managing budgets, overseeing multiple priorities, and responding to issues as they arise. Our goal is to make their job easier. We want to be the partner they can rely on for proactive maintenance, responsive service, and solutions that help them avoid disruptions before they happen.”
Josh believes the difference between a good contractor and a strategic partner comes down to understanding the bigger picture. While many companies focus on fixing today’s problem, he believes the greatest value comes from helping customers plan ahead, reduce risk, and protect their operations over the long term.
That philosophy aligns closely with Shafer Mechanical’s approach to commercial service. Whether supporting office buildings, healthcare facilities, manufacturing operations, retail spaces, or other commercial properties, the goal remains the same: deliver reliable solutions that keep businesses operating efficiently and safely.
Outside of work, Josh enjoys spending time outdoors and tending to his garden, where he focuses on planting native species that support birds, bees, and butterflies. It’s a hobby that has also influenced his leadership style.
“Finding the right plant, putting it in the right environment, and giving it the support it needs to thrive isn’t all that different from working with people,” Josh said. “When you invest in people and give them the tools they need to succeed, the results take care of themselves.”
