Jason Zapalac – Chief Commercial Officer
Jason is a seasoned leader and industry expert who established Shafer’s commercial division in 2019 with one truck—his. In just three years, he grew Shafer’s commercial division to 14 trucks, four account managers, and a fully functional operations team that is growing dramatically. He also helped Shafer launch commercial plumbing in 2021. Today, his division oversees four departments: commercial projects, industrial refrigeration, commercial plumbing, and mechanical. Jason uses his 24 years of industry experience to provide impeccable service and treat people like family. He has diverse knowledge beginning in 1998 as a pipefitter, where he later transitioned to mechanical service, becoming a journeyman in 2002. He paused his career from 2003-2007 to serve in the United States Army. After which, he worked his way up through the ranks at Shell Oil as their R&D facilities mechanical Subject Matter Expert (SME). He then worked as a special projects manager, traveling the Gulf Coast working in refineries and petrochemical plants to provide design-build services until he joined the Shafer family in 2019.
Josh Mattox- Commercial Projects Manager
With 14 years of HVAC field experience, John is an exceptional commercial project manager. He is efficient in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing all ranges of HVAC equipment, from light to heavy. As commercial projects manager for Shafer Services Plus; Josh evaluates job sites, creates management plans, orders equipment and sees installations through to completion. Josh holds a Class A license E endorsement.
Frank Ruhr- Master Plumber/Plumbing Service Manager
There isn’t a plumbing challenge that Frank can’t solve. As a master plumber, Frank has worked on most of the high-rise buildings in San Antonio; as well as many of the area’s hospitals, manufacturing plants, hotels, colleges, and restaurants. In addition to his master plumber certification, Frank holds a backflow license and is certified in OSHA 10 and in operating forklifts, bottom lifts, and scissor lifts.
Nick Gauthier- HVAC Service Manager
Nick has worked in the HVAC industry for eight years, beginning his career as a residential service technician and eventually moving into commercial operations. In 2020, he became Shafer’s commercial HVAC service manager where he has helped grow the service department and created a level of service diversity that is second to none. His stellar technical aptitude and leadership elevates service capabilities and the customer experience daily. He has helped Shafer Services Plus become a Certified WEBS Contractor. He holds numerous technical certifications including TDLR and NATE Level 5.
